I have recently gotten quite a lot of value from doing little meditation breaks at work. It's funny to admit but I literally go to a phone booth and just spend 5 minutes in silence, breathing and trying to relax my body.
Each time I am surprised to notice how much tension I am carrying in my body from simply just being at work, interacting with people, and multi-tasking. But I think the tension does not only come from doing things. I’m also subconsciously worrying about what people think of me and my value and this builds up into anxiety over time, that sometimes feels like it comes ‘out of nowhere.
It feels a little vulnerable to share this, but I think we're all dealing with this but we just don't talk about it. I find it freeing to recognize and name it because it opens the doors to do something about it - like go and have my 5-min meditation break.
I wanted to share a couple of short guided meditations that I've found helpful when I notice I am anxious at work. These meditations focus on self-compassion because when I am too critical of myself it helps to have some external guidance to guide me toward kindness and understanding.
I am curious if you have any other meditations, or exercises that help you reduce anxiety and feel calmer at work. I'd be curious to try them!
