In a recent study, it was shown that compared to pre-pandemic data, rates of depression and anxiety, particularly social anxiety has increased significantly. And this got me thinking about my own experience pre-pandemic and post-pandemic — I remember, prior to the pandemic and lockdowns, I didn’t feel as exhausted or confused when I interacted with people. Although, we’ve been out of lockdown for awhile now, it still feels a bit odd to be around others in a way that wasn’t from before the pandemic.
Funnily enough, however, I do feel I was able to reflect on myself as a person during the time spent in lockdown and isolation — I am more aware of my own mental health struggles and I've learnt how to take good care of it . I was even able to appreciate the good things about being around people more.
Does this resonate with you? If so, what did you learn about yourself and how you interact as a result of the pandemic?
