Welcome to the final week of our Holiday Support Series đź’ť!
Let’s quickly look back at what we’ve learned over the past 3 weeks:
WEEK 1: SET INTENTIONS
WEEK 2: LEARN NEW SKILLS
WEEK 3: CHALLENGE HABITS
and finally, WEEK 4 is all about putting these steps into action:
- To help us plan changes and take action, we invite you to try a popular cognitive behavioural therapy technique known as a behavioural experiment.
- By viewing the changes and actions we want to take as experiments, you will be able to challenge your assumptions, thoughts, and behaviours as well as find a strategy that works best for you.
- With the upcoming holidays coming up, you can take this as an opportunity to try out newly learnt skills, such as those learned in WEEK 2, during social gatherings.
- For example, you might want to set up an experiment to try and make eye contact and smile with one person at work or a family gathering and see what happens. You might think it will be embarrassing and they will not reflect back the smile, but try to challenge yourself to actually see if it’s true.
We encourage you to think about what sort of experiments you might want to try. Think of something just slightly out of your comfort zone but not too much.
If you're feeling overwhelmed take a step back and if you're not enjoying the process re-evaluate and regroup before starting over in a way that you can enjoy.
P.S. On Thursday we’ll be sharing an exercise that you can use to set up an experiment and reflect on it afterwards 💝.
