Hi everyone, and a warm welcome to our new joiners π
I've been thinking about the value of setting intentions and I stumbled upon this 2015 paper.
In it, the authors reviewed existing research that indicates that being intentional about future situations, can make it easier to reach our goals.
For example, if I notice that there is a situation where I behave in ways that don't lead to the best results, I can set an intention about how I'd like to react next time.
This mental move alone makes it more likely that it will actually happen! π‘
It can be as simple as: βIf I encounter situation Y, then I will initiate action Z.β
I have been thinking of trying to drink less coffee, so my intention for this week is:
If I go to the office and feel the desire for a coffee, then I will take 2 deep breaths.
I hope this will give me enough time to disrupt my automated behavior, where I don't really question whether I want coffee or not, I just have it as a default.
I encourage you to try this for yourself and share your intentions in the comments below!
