Hi everyone, welcome to another weekly discussion!
This week’s focus is coping skills.
Sometimes the idea of coping gets a bad rep, and may be framed like a ‘cop out’ or something we do to avoid finding the ‘real solution’ to the problem.
While this may be true (doomscrolling, anyone?), it’s important to acknowledge that a lot of our coping strategies develop when we’re faced with difficult situations that we don’t know how to deal with.
Even if it’s not the perfect solution, it’s allowing us to move on and usually keeps things from getting worse.
So let’s re-frame this concept and share some examples of positive coping skills!
Is there something that you do that genuinely helps you feel better?
For me it’s journaling. Whenever I am overwhelmed, I like to spend a few minutes just writing out whatever comes to my mind, sometimes even drawing it out and just putting it down to paper. It bring me a lot of clarity and a sense that I am taking care of myself.
How about you?
