I've done 1on1 therapy and group therapy in the past. Did 1on1 for about 9 months and group for about 18 months.
I found them both useful but group was really interesting because:
- A third the price of 1on1 therapy
- You have to share your time/space in the session with your peers. This is more realistic than 1on1 therapy and allows you to explore how you relate to the different people in the group.
- There's (obviously) a social element. Particularly for social anxiety, having to deal with that social element in a safe space(which the group becomes) was valuable.
Obviously it's not for everyone, sometimes we just need the safety and certainty of a 1on1 session. Curious if anyone else has experience with group or 1on1 therapy? How was your experience?
