Hi all
I was wondering how everybody views the extent they talk about themselves. Personally, I tend to avoid talking about myself and usually change the subject. It is not clear to me to what extent I should be comfortable talking about myself if at all. This is the same for both in-person and online (even if anonymous) interactions. I am also unsure whether not knowing this naturally has anything to do with emotional intelligence or not, as I can tell how other people are feeling but I am still unsure know how to react.
Since I am unsure of what the normal situation should be, I looked for some theory on this. An article (here) states that it is rewarding and that people will expect reciprocation to what they've shared. This also seems to help with bonding with people and forming friendships.
My question for discussion is, do you talk about yourself once you are comfortable around a person or a group of people? If yes, do you ever regret sharing anything (such as likes or dislikes) with people?
Thank you for reading through this post.
